You bought her the little black dress because obviously. Two weeks later she's wearing it permanently β as blue-grey shadows across her hips and chest. Dye transfer is the #1 avoidable cosmetic disaster in this hobby: dark fabric + light TPE + time = tattoos nobody asked for. The good news: prevention is nearly free, and even existing stains usually lift. Here's the complete defense.

Luna, wearing silver β pre-washed, obviously.
Why TPE drinks dye
TPE's surface is microscopically porous and slightly oil-rich β exactly the conditions loose fabric dye loves to migrate into. Cheap dark clothing sheds dye constantly (that's why new jeans turn your hands blue), and against warm TPE under gentle pressure for hours, that dye doesn't sit on the skin β it moves in. Time and contact pressure are the multipliers: a two-hour photoshoot in unwashed black lace is usually fine; a month stored in it never is.
The risk table
| Clothing | Risk | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| New dark denim | π΄ Extreme | 3+ washes before she wears it, never for storage |
| Black/red/navy fast fashion | π΄ High | Wash 2β3Γ, test first, hours not days |
| Quality dark lingerie | π‘ Medium | Wash once, test, fine for sessions |
| Light colors, whites, pastels | π’ Minimal | Wash once for finishes, then relax |
| White cotton | π’ Zero | The storage uniform |
The four-layer defense
- Pre-wash everything dark, 2β3 times, until the rinse water runs clear. This alone kills most of the risk.
- The paper-towel test: press a damp white cloth or paper towel firmly on the (dry) fabric for a minute. Any color on the towel = the fabric isn't done bleeding = more washes or skip it.
- Powder her before dressing β the fresh powder layer is a mild transfer barrier (powder guide), and a thin white cotton slip under risky outfits is a bulletproof one.
- Undress for storage, always. Contact time is the multiplier β storage is where "a little risky" becomes permanent (storage guide). White cotton only if she must be dressed.

Already stained? Triage.
Move fast β fresh dye lifts dramatically better than settled dye. The full protocol is in the stain removal guide: TPE stain-remover cream in patient overnight cycles, no scrubbing, powder to finish. Weeks-old stains usually fade to faint; months-old stains become "character." Prevention really is the whole game here.
Silicone owners relax (a little)
Non-porous silicone resists dye far better β most transfer wipes off with soap or a careful alcohol pass (fine on silicone, never TPE). But prolonged storage contact can still mark the surface finish, so the storage rule β undressed or white cotton β stays universal.
FAQ
How many washes until dark denim is safe?
Three minimum, then the paper-towel test decides. Some cheap denim never fully stops bleeding β that's outfit-for-an-evening material, not loungewear.
Are "color-catcher" laundry sheets useful?
Yes β toss them in the pre-washes as a progress meter: when the sheet comes out clean, the fabric's ready for her.
Fastest zero-risk wardrobe strategy?
Whites, creams and pastels as the daily rotation; darks as pre-washed, tested, session-only statement pieces. She looks incredible in white anyway β ask anyone.
Do stockings and tights transfer?
Black nylons are a classic offender on thighs. Same rules: wash first, test, don't store her in them.
